By the Seine: An Unexpected Cultural Getaway

Must-see: The Camille Claudel Museum

Nogent-sur-Seine is where it all began for Camille Claudel. As a teenager, she sculpted her first works here and met Alfred Boucher, the artist who would become her first mentor before she moved to Paris. The museum is built on the site of her former family home, right in the historic center.

Today, the Camille Claudel Museum is the only museum in the world entirely dedicated to the artist. It features 45 of her works and offers a remarkable overview of French sculpture from the late 19th century, including pieces by Rodin, Bourdelle, Pompon, and many others.

La Valse, The Age of Maturity, The Gossips, and Perseus and the Gorgon all showcase the exceptional talent of an artist long overshadowed by Rodin. These works remain strikingly modern to this day.

An absolute must-see!

In the Streets: An Urban Art Walk

Keep your eyes open! A street art trail winds through alleys, around corners, revealing hidden facades, details, and unexpected spots. The best way to explore the town is to get lost in it.

Along the Water: Île Olive & Monteuil Lake

Walk along the Seine to Île Olive, then continue to the Monteuil lake. These landscapes have barely changed since Flaubert wrote Sentimental Education—and that’s exactly what makes them so special.

On the Water?

The Nogent rowing club offers paddleboarding and kayaking trips along the Seine—perfect for discovering this still-wild part of the river. A unique experience just 55 minutes from Paris.
