It is possible to explore our beautiful Aube department along the greenways! On foot, by bike, on rollerblades, or even on the back of your dog if its size allows it (everything is possible in Champagne), take a walk along the Aube’s bike paths and enjoy a total change of scenery, in complete freedom! Start your cycling tour at the very heart of the region, in the town of Troyes, and let yourself be carried along a poetic, rewarding and timeless ride. Whether it’s on the greenway of the Seine and Aube great lakes, to reach the famous Forêt d’Orient Regional Nature Park, or on the greenway of the Haute-Seine canal, further north, you’re bound to find something to suit you.

So, shall we go?

The Seine and Aube great lakes greenway, a gentle alliance of land and water

This greenway, which links Troyes to Port-Dienville, is no less than 42 km long. The equivalent of a marathon, absolutely. Once again: everything is possible in the Champagne region. Along the way, you will enjoy superb views of the Forêt d’Orient lakes. You will wander among dykes, beach shores, forest tracks… A change of scenery is guaranteed on the Lakes Cycle Route! Leaving Troyes, it will take you about 1h30 by bike to reach the Forêt d’Orient Regional Nature Park: on arrival, enjoy the water activities in the vicinity, you’ve earned it! Swimming, water sports, tree climbing… After cycling, it’s time for water activities!

And to finish this excursion in style, we recommend that you visit the Espace Faune animal park, located in Mesnil-Saint-Père, and accessible by the greenway which runs around the Orient lake. It has been possible to cycle around the Orient Lake since 2021. The good news is that if you don’t have a bike, you can rent one, including electric bikes, from various service providers on this route that are listed at the bottom of this page.

A cycling trip on the greenway of the Haute-Seine canal

This 45 km long greenway takes you to the north of the department along the famous Barberey-Saint-Sulpice canal. That is the equivalent of a marathon plus a few kilometres, absolutely. Allow us to repeat once again that everything is possible in Champagne! There are several routes to choose from: either the towpath, which is entirely tarmac (and therefore accessible to people with reduced mobility), and ideal for cycling or rollerblading, or the counter towpath and its natural, green environment. It’s up to you to choose your route! The Haute-Seine Canal is renowned for its tree-lined banks and the charm of its landscape and small locks. Enjoy a shady walk, surrounded by swans and moorhens. Breathe, admire the view, relax: you are in Champagne. Close this lovely interlude with a stop at the educational farm in Mery sur Seine, and enjoy the tree-lined terrace overlooking the Seine at the restaurant L’Écluse n°8in Saint-Mesmin.

Whether you want to travel by bike, on foot, with friends or family… the route, which is mostly flat, is accessible even to the youngest: set off in total safety with your children to discover the natural heritage of the Champagne region!
