Traditional architecture in Pays d'Othe and Armance The Pays d'Othe and Armance have specific architectural peculiarities. From 1840 to 1870, in the Pays d'Othe and Armance, we see small farmhouses called "longères" which have more space than traditional houses (the "chaumières"), then from 1850 the house without floor but separated from the buildings operating. At the end of the nineteenth century, there were large "Bourgeoises" multi-storey houses built. The shape of the habitat is different depending on the agricultural activity of the owners and the traditional habitat. Many farmhouses are present on this territory; they always organize themselves in L or U around a courtyard and their facades are almost systematically oriented towards the south. The brickworks appear approximately in the middle of the 19th century. The bricks are of different colors depending on their cooking and the composition of the land used. They are used for cladding facades and are often assembled in inscriptions or geometric shapes such as checkerboard, rhombus or triangle. They are also used for consolidation or in hollowed (filling hollow body) and are very present to decorate the openings.
