Circuit cyclotouristique de Bercenay-en-Othe |
Start: Bercenay-en-Othe, church square. Length: 26 km, 2 hours. Elevation gain: 285 m. Difficulty: Easy. Located opposite the church, the wash house, dating from 1843, was built in the former presbytery garden. It is an irregular octagon of brick covered with a diamond-shaped slate roof, supported by pillars that punctuate each side of the octagon. Km 5: La Perrière. At the edge of La Perrière, the hunting lodge of General Rambourg, dating from the early 19th century, is a long, single-story building. Km 15: Sommeval. The calcareous grasslands of Sommeval contain a diverse range of flora. Eighty different plant species have been recorded, including several types of gentians and orchids. These orchid meadows have earned the village the designation of "Site Naturel de France" (Natural Site of France). Km 23: Vauchassis Church of the Assumption: the current building dates from the 18th century. Designed with generous proportions, it is the largest church in the canton of Estissac. The chancel is entered through beautiful wrought-iron gates in the Louis XV style. The sanctuary is adorned with a high altar in red and gray marble with bronze mounts. There are period furnishings, such as a 15th-century wooden Virgin and Child and a 16th-century wooden Saint Nicholas. A remarkable small painted panel from the 18th century, in the Dutch school, depicts an "Ecce Homo." Arrival at km 26: Bercenay-en-Othe.
