Sunday, November 16: ERVY-LE-CHATEL - Guitar and cello concert. 5:00 PM at the Saint-Pierre-es-Liens church. Following the magic of Julien Marcou's harp in October, two young Japanese musicians, Riko Morita on guitar and Urara Katsuki on cello, will enchant us. Their musical training, prizes from renowned competitions, and performances guarantee a high-quality concert, followed by refreshments in the circular hall where we will have the pleasure of gathering around these young artists destined for a bright future. Riko Morita is a Japanese guitarist from Fukuoka. She began playing guitar at the age of 7 and studied with Memi Ueno, Yasuji Ohagi, and Shin-Ichi Fukuda. She also received comprehensive training in solfège and music theory. She is also a prizewinner in several competitions in Japan, including first prize at the 60th Kyushu Guitar Music Competition in 2014 and second prize in the honors section of the 46th All Japan Guitar Competition in 2019. In 2016, she performed the Concierto de Aranjuez with the Tachibana Orchestra in Fukuoka. Riko Morita performs actively in Japan, where she has been invited to festivals and concerts in more than a dozen cities. She has also made several appearances in national media. She is currently pursuing her studies at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, in her third year of undergraduate studies in the classical guitar class of Gabriel Bianco and Gianni Caserotto, and is preparing for the French National Higher Professional Diploma for Musicians. In France, she develops her artistic projects, notably in a duo with the Spanish guitarist Guadalupe Martin. Together, they have performed at the Ile St Louis Guitar Festival in Paris, at the Jacqueline Trubert exhibition in La Flèche, and in concert at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Banyuls-sur-Mer and the Church of Sainte Marie du Mercadal in Castelnou. In June 2025, Riko Morita gave her first solo recital in Paris, marking a significant milestone in her European career. Urara Katsuki began learning the cello at the age of three at the Suzuki Music Institute in Aichi. She continued her musical studies at Toho University of Music in the class of Sumiko Kurata (modern cello). She graduated in 2015 from Toho University of Music in Tokyo with a degree in music theory and modern cello. In 2017, she won first prize and two special prizes at one of Japan's most prestigious competitions, the Music Competition of Japan. As a soloist, she has performed with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Aichi Central Orchestra, and the Gumma Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, she moved to the HEMU in Lausanne for her master's degree in the class of Xavier Phillips. After being admitted to the CNSMD in Paris in 2022 in the class of Emmanuelle Bertrand, Urara is currently studying with Louis Rodde and Haruko Ueda in the advanced chamber music program.
