Conference - Making a statue at La Sainterie |
When Léon Moynet (1818-1892) modeled his first terracotta masterpieces, the two altars of the church of Magny-Fouchard, beginning in 1842, a new era began for the decoration of religious buildings. Terracotta statues met the needs of the religious revival. Their multiple editions, thanks to the casting technique, brought lighter and more attractively priced pieces to the market. How did Moynet adapt this stamping technique to produce statues as beautiful as the unique works of stone or wood sculptors? How did he decorate them? How did he develop his commercial network to achieve an annual production of several thousand statues? Which artists collaborated with the Sainterie? How did the factory evolve over more than a century? These are all questions that will be debated during this conference. It will give Vendeuvre an image that is both very nostalgic and very positive, the one that allows us to discover the little people of the statues currently presented at the church for the exhibition "The statuary of Vendeuvre: a paradise found", organized by ArTho, in partnership with the Department of Aube, the City of Vendeuvre-sur-Barse and the Diocese of Troyes. The conference will be presented by François Gilet, historian and member of the ArTho team, will take place on Thursday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m., at the ArTho premises: (former Belleveu nursery school), 8, rue Guynemer, 10 140 Vendeuvre-sur-Barse. (large parking lot opposite the entrance).
