Much is known about the Egyptian campaign, especially about the "Bonaparte" period. Upon Kleber's death, General Menou was chosen to replace him. He governed Egypt for a year. Historians pay little attention to this period; Bonaparte was no longer there. Little is known of this man except his Muslim marriage and an unflattering image. His iconography is sparse; he does not appear in the paintings or numerous engravings celebrating this epic. And yet, he laid the foundations for the concept of civilizing colonization. Who was he really? Who was this man whom Bonaparte truly trusted? Emmanuel Poucet, delegate of the Souvenir Napoléonien Champagne-Ardenne, answers your questions during a fascinating lecture.
