The 19th century turned to inspirations from the past, and in addition to influences from Romanesque and Gothic architecture, Roman basilicas appealed to architects. The nave is flanked by aisles, pierced by round-headed windows that double the height of those in the nave, its apse is semicircular and there is no transept.
