The 19th century saw the creation of a number of churches inspired by past architecture, particularly the Romanesque (10th-12th) and Gothic (12th-16th) styles.

The church at Cormost takes its inspiration from these two styles, a combination in vogue between 1850 and 1880, notably in its slender elevation (Gothic) and round-headed windows (Romanesque). In vogue at the time, the use of brick is also found at Cormost, adding dynamism to the single-vessel structure through the interplay of colors.
