Archaeological excavations in 1994-95 uncovered a large Gallo-Roman domus (urban house) dating from the early 1st century AD, complete with hypocaust (hot-air heating system). To the east, it was bordered by a Roman road, a navigation canal and a district of modest dwellings (insula). Also discovered on the site was the so-called "Chaillouet" monetary deposit: an amphora containing 186,000 Roman and local coins (now on display in the Musée Saint-Loup). Some of the remains are on display in the courtyard of the buildings (accessible to the public via the rue Simart entrance). You can also enjoy a pleasant stroll along the Seine.
