Visite de l'église Saint-Loup-de-Sens, Journées Européennes du Patrimoine |
Friday, September 19: AUXON - Visit to the Saint-Loup-de-Sens church, European Heritage Days. From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Auxon church, rue de la mairie. Donated in the 16th century by the Chevillard family, the church of Auxon is a remarkable building, generously decorated with statues and stained-glass windows illustrating the martyrdom of Christ. Damaged by a bomb in 1870, the stained-glass windows were clumsily reinstalled, before being carefully restored in the 19th century by the workshops of Félix Gaudin. This magnificent work is now presented to visitors for admiration during a guided tour. The Auxon presbytery is dedicated to Saint Loup de Sens. This church was formerly attached to the diocese of Sens (Yonne), seat of a cure at the collation of the abbot of the abbey of Saint-Pierre-le-Vif of Sens; it covered the hamlets of Eaux, Puiseaux and Montigny before these became parishes. The church is cited from the 9th century and placed under the patronage of Saint Peter. The current church was begun from the east around 1506; it was completed before 1550. South portal from 1537. West portal from 1540. Western vaults and tower from the 17th century.
