Saturday, October 11: VILLEMAUR-SUR-VANNE - Guided tour of the collegiate church and the bell tower restoration site. At 3 p.m. Guided tour of the 13th-century collegiate church of the Assumption of the Virgin of Villemaur-sur-Vanne. Famous for its carved wooden rood screen, created in 1521, in the purest style of the École Champenoise. The sober architecture of the 13th-century choir and transept, as well as the 16th-century nave, are covered with a beautiful wooden hoop. The limestone and wood, intimately linked, give the treasure of this church – the rood screen – all its importance. Once polychromed, this famous rood screen, which completely encloses the choir, is remarkably fine and astonishingly rich in decoration. A true book of instruction and mediation for the use of pilgrims in the Middle Ages. This is the largest and richest surviving wooden rood screen in France. The tour continues inside the bell tower, where you can admire the restoration work carried out by the various craftsmen. Price: €4.
