BAR-SUR-SEINE
One of the doors to the Côte des Bar vineyards, this Champagne town saw the birth of Jeanne de Navarre, future queen of France.
At the foot of its hill, Bar sur Seine is charming for its 16th century timber frame houses including Maison Renaissance, its cadoles (vineyard shelters), the remains of the chateau of the Comtes de Bar, and its church with its stained glass windows and 16th century bas reliefs. Close by is Avalleur commandery with an authentic Templar chapel. Concerts in Avalleur on Saturdays in July and an exhibition of paintings.
