Camille Claudel : autour de Sakountala

September 14, 2024 - January 12, 2025 On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Camille Claudel, the museum is honoring the artist through one of his major works: Sakountala. This sculpture, the only one which earned her an award at the Salon, is a thread allowing us to retrace the career of the artist, drawing in particular on the variations she proposed, under different titles and in various formats and materials: from Abandonment to The Wounded Niobide via Vertumne and Pomona. The exhibition looks back at the patient development of the work and the eventful history of its reception as well as the choice of this myth from ancient Indian literature, popular in the 19th century, which provides all its strength and originality. of Sakountala.
