(The Holy Shroud, a linen cloth in which Christ's portrait is said to have been drawn simply by placing it on his face after his crucifixion, was in Lirey from 1353 to 1418).

Demolished during the French Revolution, many of its furnishings were taken over by other churches and museums, including altars now housed at London's Victoria and Albert Museum.

The present church, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin, was built between 1870 and 1880.
