The Saint-Maclou chapter of Bar-sur-Aube was founded by the Count of Champagne Henry I the Liberal, at the parish church Saint-Maclou, within the walls of the new castle.
Originally, it included twenty-nine canons. It was based on an older church which was branch of ste-Germaine and depended on the abbey of St. Claude.
In October 1471, by his letters patent, King Louis XI confirmed the privileges of the chapter of Saint-Maclou de Bar, previously granted by his predecessors. The chapter chapter named the priests of the churches of St. Maclou, St. Madeleine, the presentation of the cures of Ailleville, Baroville, Proverville, Urville, and Vitry-le-Croise; the cantor presented that of Bayel, the treasurer that of Couvignon. It disappears during the French Revolution.
The building is classified as a historical monument in 1840.
