Étang du Grand Verdat |
Owned by the municipality of Epothémont and leased and managed by the CPIE (Permanent Center for Environmental Initiatives) since 2002, the pond boasts a wealth of ecological resources, particularly dragonflies and birds. Inventories of the flora and fauna are conducted, and awareness-raising activities are also carried out during various events. Since 2026, this site has been designated a "Sensitive Natural Area," a designation implemented to promote and preserve sites of biological and/or scenic interest. The Aube Department supports the CPIE and the municipality of Epothémont in the preservation and management of the Grand Verdat pond. An educational trail allows you to learn about the site and the biodiversity it shelters. This trail is open to the public and also includes an observation point at the end, allowing you to immerse yourself in this environment. You will find various information panels explaining the lives of the different species living in the pond. The CPIE of Southern Champagne regularly organizes outings to bring this natural area to life. Don't hesitate to check our calendar to take note of upcoming dates!
