Exposition Jean Delivré

From July 3rd to September 1st: AIX-EN-OTHE - Exhibition by Jean Delivré at the Tourist Information Office. Jean Delivré initially worked for many years as a conservator-restorer of cultural heritage, specializing in the restoration of sculptures and medieval polychromy, whether on cathedral portals or on more intimate works held in French museums. Fascinated by the expressive possibilities offered by the highly refined painting techniques of the late Middle Ages, he has explored them to create entirely contemporary works, drawing inspiration when necessary from 20th-century artists such as the Delaunays or M.C. Escher. The delicate layering of preparation, colors, gold leaf, lacquer, etc., on medieval works has given way in Jean Delivré's work to the application of colors (and sometimes gold) in successive layers, made possible by the use of very thin strips or glass beads. Light penetrates deeply into the material of these colored or uncolored layers, while simultaneously being reflected, refracted, transformed, and sublimated. Depending on the lighting conditions and the viewer's position, the artwork can thus experience multiple moments, each different from the others.
