Hôtel des Grisettes

Restored in 2001, this handsome half-timbered building with corbelling and mullioned windows is typical of 16th-century Trojan architecture.

Until the 18th century, nuns housed and trained orphan girls, nicknamed Grisettes because of their gray uniforms. The "quartier bas" and the parish of Saint-Nizier have long been home to many destitute people.
Reverend Father Lafra, whose name this street honors, was a Trojan Jesuit who devoted his life to young people and the underprivileged. In 1921, he founded L'Alerte, a cultural and sports association, including a music school and a renowned brass band, which still exists today thanks to the efforts of volunteers. His bronze bust is located near the Saint-Nizier church.
